We are so happy to let you know that the Downtown BID is offering free family portraits in front of the Sprig Flower Truck this Saturday. Bring the family anytime from 10 to1 p.m. and photographer Susan Nagib will capture a lovely market memory for you!
How lucky are we? La Petite Occasion, which makes the finest caramels in Westchester, will be at the New Rochelle Farmer’s Market on Saturday. Since they cannot sell their caramels in the hot weather – this will be their LAST farmer’s market until September. And it happens to be in New Rochelle. So pick your caramels wisely – and stock up!

Also here this week for the first time, Found Herbal, a botanical apothecary. based in Hastings. Herbalist Jessica Mullins makes balms, tinctures and salves from local herbs and flowers. She also sells all natural but very effective bug sprays and flavored “health” honeys like elderberry. Please give her a warm New Rochelle welcome.
By now you’ve figured out we like it when you linger a while at the market and enjoy a nosh and some great tunes. Toward that end, we bring you Jackie’s Empanadss, all the way from Westport, CT. These are the real deal. Jackie presses them all by hand and fills them with spinach. or chicken or beef and though far from heavy, they are generously packed with filings and flavor. Buy some to eat on the spot and then some frozen to take home for an affordable family meal.

Need a side vegetable with that?
R & R Produce is bringing in beautiful broccoli from the fields this week along with bok choy, always nice simply sauteed with garlic and olive oil. Especially olive oil from Arlotta Food Studio. Of course, these oils are finishing oils and shouldn’t be limited to salad dressings for those amazing organic salads from Growing Hearts Farm (this week they are bringing gorgeous spring raddicchio and spring onions). Drizzle the lemon flavored oil over fish. And the blood orange over vanilla ice cream from Penny Lick and serve with a side of Wright’s Farm strawberries for an easy dessert. By the way, Wright’s Farm is also bringing cherries this week!

We are also happy to feature this week American Bow Knife. Woodworker Eileen Russell makes “rocking” mezzaluna knives which are great if you have young children in the kitchen who want to learn how to cook with you. Also, her “bow knife” will change the way you slice and chop – for good.
These make great housewarming gifts for recent grads…
How about a gift for your garden and for a good cause? Considering buying some gorgeous Canna Lilies from Pots’ Canna Lillies. “Pots” retired 8 years ago from the New Rochelle Fire Department and he and his wife Liz started growing lilies in their greenhouse .They sell them ro raise money for children with brain tumors and, so far, have raised $35,000.00.. They are only here through June so make sure to pick up your tropical Canna this weekend.
See you at the market!
