Market Newsletter for Saturday, June 15th
Locals are talking about the greens at the Growing Heart Farm tent at the farmer’s market: how flavorful they are, how long they last in your refrigerator, and how much they make you crave a salad. Our neighbors have been asking for an organic grower at their local market for a while and we are so happy that Growing Heart Farm from Dutchess, NY, has decided to join our “new” New Rochelle Farmer’s Market.

Growing Hearts has some bounciest lettuces we’ve ever seen and some of the best most peppery arugula we’ve tasted. And their plants are so healthy and happy they make you want to rush home and start a salad or pizza garden.
If you haven’t been to the new and improved market we urge you to take a spin there on Saturday. We’ve taken the GRAND out of the name and put it instead in our produce, pastured-meats, fresh eggs right from the coop, and tantalizing baked goods like those from Argentine/Peruvian bakery, Silvia’s Kitchen. Why not buy some of her authentic alfajores cookies for dad for Father’s Day? Or, if dad prefers meat to sweet, how about some nice steak or pork chops from RM Farms? Don’t forget bacon and eggs for breakfast on Sunday…no reason dad shouldn’t get breakfast in bed, too.

Also, if you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or just plain friendship, make sure to buy flowers from the Sprig Flower Truck. Dana brings flowers grown all over the Hudson Valley from fragrant freesia to bursting sunflowers and you can make your own bouquets or let Dana work her “mix and match” magic. The uncanny thing about her flowers is that they last longer than two weeks. So, yes, they may be a little pricier than supermarket flowers but they will outlast (and out-smell) any grocer’s bunch.

This week Anthis Greek Specialties will be serving up some fantastic moussaka, spanakopita, and Gigantes beans. Grab a platter and eat it on the green while you enjoy our live music line-up. This week, Homespun Chili is back!
Why not make some crostini with focaccia bread from Wave Hill, goat cheese from Dobbs & Bishop, peppery arugula from Growing Hearts, honey from Wild Thyme & Honey and roasted beets?
Hope to see you at the market! We are open from 9 to 2 p.m. at the Library Green. Tell all your friends…there’s a new market in town.
